My Project is on the Photographer Steven McCury (Born Feb-24-1950, 67yrs old). Born in Philidalphia, it was there at the Art school at Pensylvania state he got his degree in photography. He worked at a newspaper for 2 years before he left to India to freelance. It was in India that Steve started to think about life and his artform, finding himself. His career was launched when, disguised in native garb, he crossed the Pakistan border into rebel-controlled Afghanistan just before the Russian invasion. When he emerged, he had rolls of film sewn into his clothes and images that would be published around the world as among the first to show the conflict there. This would eventualy win him several awards, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal for Best Photographic Reporting from Abroad.
Steven McCurry takes very interesting photos, seeming to side more with the portrait style of photography. There is a very famous photo taken by him called "Afgan Girl", featured in National Geographic magazine in 1984. I attempted to immitate this with my mother.
Steve shows high apreciation for flashy, bright color implimented in his photos. Espessially the ones implimenting paint. The first time I saw his photography i was immediately taken back. He is insanely good at what he does, showing not only the beauty and culture all around the world. But also a great deal of emotions he's able to capture in just a neutral facial expression. He uses colors and paint to portray this even further, contrasting someone with darker skin with an orange beard for example.
Obviosly, it should be noted that my access to a camera on the same level as Steve was not possible and my mother doesn't look like a young girl. However I used what I had to imitate it how I could.
